The Answer to Atheism ... God

Mt. St. Helens in Washington erupted in May 1980 blowing 1,300 ft off the top and leaving a crater 2,084 ft deep, 1.2 miles to 1.8 miles across the top. It sent about 540 million tons of ash across the Western United States. It even effected our weather down here in Texas.   The blast covered 230 square miles.  The huge tree in the left foreground was destroyed from the blast. The space below where my wife is standing, to the mountain, is desolate except for some fallen trees.  You can see that the volcano is still active by the small cloud of smoke coming from the 1,000 + ft. dome in the middle right.  I stood in awe as  I took the above photo in August 2005.  However, the natural forces which caused this eruption in 1980 are only a grain of sand upon the sea shore compared to the forces that were exerted when God spoke all creation, even our own universe, into existence.
"For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you" (Acts 17:22).
Notice to the reader:  I am not a scientist, therefore my answers will not be "scientific" in nature, but will follow logical truth as should all true science.

1. There is no such "thing" as probability.  Probability is not a thing.  It is simply a quantitative descriptive analysis of unknowns. For example, if a person KNOWS the weight of the coin, the atmospheric pressure, the force exerted on the side of the coin, the angle of the force, the number of revolutions of the coin, and etc. with each of theses being "factors" then he would KNOW how the coin would land when it is tossed.  Probability also does not "cause" anything.
"Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear" (Hebrews 11:3).

"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"  (Colossians 1:16).

2. True science does not "create" anything.  True science searches and attempts to define what is already in existence and how it acts or reacts.  Science only discovers and has no creative power in and of itself.
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1).

"God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;   And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;  That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us" (Acts 17:24-27).

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty" (Revelation 1:8).

3. For a person to say, "I haven't seen or discovered God; therefore, God does not exist" is to say that the individual has been everywhere and knows all things.  This is nothing but mere pride and arrogance.
"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good" (Psalm 14:1).

"He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not" (John 1:10).

"Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,  Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?  Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.  Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding" (Job 38:1-4).

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.  Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard" (Psalm 19:1-3).

4. To say that man just created the idea of God to fulfill a need is to to say there is indeed a need for God.  Science and knowledge can never take the place of the love of God or His forgiveness for man's sins.
"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you" (I Peter 5:7).

5. All true science observes a "law of cause and effect". Another way to state this fact is that every thing comes from something.  Therefore, science can not explain the "beginning" of existence apart from God.  In simple language, why not say that "everything" came from God?
"As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come" (Proverbs 26:2).

"And he is before all things, and by him all things consist" (Colossians 1:17).

6. To say there is no such thing as moral absolutes is to say that murder is not different from a death by "natural causes".    However, to acknowledge the existence of a moral absolute is to acknowledge that there must be an author of that moral absolute.
"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.  For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law" (James 2:10-11).

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good" (Psalm 53:1)

7. To say that science has a place in the human existence is to acknowledge there must be an order of reason in existence.  Again, if there is an order of reason, there must be a source for "reason".
"Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men" (I Corinthians 1:25).

"I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded" (Isaiah 45:12).

"And he is before all things, and by him all things consist" (Colossians 1:17).

8.  Even to say that everything came into existence through a "big bang theory" acknowledges something happened, but does not explain what was in existence prior to the event or the cause for the event.  The reality is that the "big bang" is yet to come.

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up" (II Peter 3:10).

9. To deny the existence of God is to deny all purpose in man's existence except for man to discover himself.  However, God has a plan for the life of every person that will follow that plan.
"A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself" (Proverbs 18:2).

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created" (Revelation 4:11).

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end" (Jeremiah 29:11).

10.  The fact that any power or force exists, must also bring one to the conclusion that there can be an Almighty power (a power above all other powers).
"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty" (Revelation 1:8).

"I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me" (Jeremiah 27:5).

"Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:" (Jeremiah 32:17).

"And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?" (Daniel 4:25).

11. The fact that "authority" exists no matter how one may claim or explain that authority, must also give reason to the fact that there must be be someone higher, such as an absolute authority.
"Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.  Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?  If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;  All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.  If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.  Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?" (Job 34:12-17).

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers (authorities). For there is no power (authority) but of God: the powers (authorities) that be are ordained of God" (Romans 13:1).

12. The person who declares that there is no absolute truth nullifies his own declaration or argument.  In contrast, the person who acknowledges that truth does exist is open to the reality of truth.
"God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged" (Romans 3:4).

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32).

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6).

13. The person who refuses to believe in God does so despite the weight of evidence of science and reason.  He, in fact, has the truth, but is unwilling to hold to it righteously.  All he has to do is to look at creation.
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;   Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.   For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:18-22).
14. The person who says, "I believe; therefore, I am" uses a false subjective logic.  He indeed existed before he can conclude that he exists. Likewise, the existence of God precludes one's belief in God.  Why?  Before, the existence of man was and is the existence of God.
"Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture" (Psalm 100:3).
15.  The fact that man has a conscience of some similarity of right and wrong points to the fact that there must be an author of judgment, both good and evil.
"For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:  Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)  In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel" (Romans 2:14-16)
16.  The fact that man has done wrong and feels guilty points to the need for forgiveness.  Science can't forgive!  Only God can provide forgiveness.
"Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God" (Romans 3:19).

"And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?" (Luke 5:21).

17. Why use God's Word to defend creation?   Why not???  The atheist uses the writing of other atheists.  Why not use the words of the Creator?
"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times" (Psalms 12:6).

"Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever" (Psalm 119:160).

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17).

18. To the atheist there is no future hope for life ends with the grave, but for the wise there is life after the physical death.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (I Peter 1:3-5).

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him" (I Thessalonians 4:13-14).

"For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind"  (Isaiah 65:17).

19. To the atheist there is no final justice for life simply ends.  The truth is that God will judge right and wrong.
"And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt" (Daniel 12:11).

"And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:11-15)

20. The atheist finds his value only in himself and what he can discover or create.  His worth is relative to his knowledge, skills, or ability.  The end result is vanity.
"Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity" (Ecclesiastes 1:2).
"And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.  For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow" (Ecclesiastes 1:17-18).

"Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil" (Ecclesiastes 12:8, 12-14).

21. The very fact that man is a creative being points to the fact that there is a Creator who has enabled him to have a creative ability.
"All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made" (John 1:3).

"Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created" (Psalm 148:5).

Illustration:  There was a story of a young man who wanted to share with his atheist friend about God. He worked for months in his basement building and putting together mobiles to build a model of the universe.  Then one day he invited his friend over to his house.  Without telling him anything about he had done, he simply said, "I want to show you something.  He opened the door to the basement to show him the model of the universe.  His atheist friend, in amazement, responded, "Wow! Did you make this?"  The young man candidly commented, "No, it just happened!"    The story illustrates the principle of design. No one can look at the universe and truthfully say, "It just happened".  Where there is a book, there must be an author of that book.  I would challenge any one who claims to be an atheist, to read the Book, the Bible, and then honestly seek the Creator.

GOD SAYS:
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13).
"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.  For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:   So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (Isaiah 55:6-11).

Jesus said, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me" (John 5:39).

*** NOTE: An individual gains his true value, not from self, but from giving worth (worship) to the Creator.  The Creator, Himself, gives a sense of worth and purpose to the individual. (If the creator that you know does not provide you with a sense of worth, then you have a warped view of the Creator and haven't really come to know the true Creator)
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end"  (Jeremiah 29:11).

"But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me" (I Corinthians 15:10).

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).
