Overcoming Guilt
The above photo is of a bird fleeing the storm clouds.  You can also overcome the storm clouds of guilt in your life.  Quite often guilt also brings depression,
fear, anxiety, and various physical ailments associated with fear.   "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.
He that feareth is not made perfect in love" (I John 4:18).

I. We should know that everyone has become GUILTY before God without exception.
A. Man's self-righteousness is nothing to God.
1. "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away"  (Isaiah 64:6).
2. "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10).
3. "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart" (Matthew 5:28).
4. "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6).
B. This the the primary purpose of the Law.
1. "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one" (Romans 3:10-12).
2. "Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin" (Romans 3:19-20).
3. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
4. "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law" (Romans 3:28).
5. "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith" (Galatians 3:24).
II. Jesus is the only remedy for sin.
A. Jesus is the saviour.
1. "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21).
2. "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).
B. God gave Jesus to save us from our sins.
1. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
2. "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6).
3. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
4. "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief" (I Timothy 1:15).
C. Jesus is the only one.
1. "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).
2. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (I Timothy 2:5).
III.  Jesus became the sin substitute.
A. "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world" (I John 2:2).
B. "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him" (II Corinthians 5:21).
C. He took the full penalty for sin.   SEE: Overcoming The Enemy. = http://alternative-counseling.org/sp-war/jesus-hades.html
IV. He took our sins away.
A. We are not guilty.     WE ARE JUSTIFIED ... (just as though we never sinned).  (We were fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, drunkards, thieves, covetous, homosexuals, etc.)  "And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God" (I Corinthians 6:11).

B. He is to remember no more our sins.   "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more" (Hebrews 8:12).   IF HE DOESN'T, WHY SHOULD WE?

C. He casts the our sins into the sea.   "He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea" (Micah 7:19).

D. He remove sins.  "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us" (Psalm 103:12).

E. He purged our sins.  "But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins" (II Peter 1:9).

F. Our sins are washed away by his blood.  "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood" (Revelation 1:5).

G. He forgives our sins. "But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house" (Matthew 9:6).

V.  Our conscience is to be purged from dead works that we may serve God.
A. "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God" (Hebrews 6:1).  (( dead works are any works that we may attempt to do to obtain or maintain our salvation)).

B. "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:14).

VI. If we refuse to accept God's forgiveness or refuse forgive ourselves.
A. First, we are placing ourselves in the position of being HIGHER than God.   This is a form of idolatry and subject to the judgment of God.
1. See Matthew 18:21-35...    "And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses"  (Matthew 18:34-35) The tormentors are demonic spirits.

2. If we remain angry toward ourselves.    "Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:   Neither give place to the devil" (Ephesians 4:26-27)  We open ourselves up for the enemy to come in and set up a stronghold within our soul.

B. We are saying that sacrifice of Jesus was of no value.     "Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?"  (Hebrews 10:29).  The context is rejection of the salvation of Jesus, but may also have an application to Believers in the discipline that God gives them.
VII. One who continues to reject the forgiveness of sins and carries guilt with him, may well be under the control of a religious spirit or an spirit of self condemnation or suicide.
A. A religious spirit is a spirit that blinds one to the grace of God.
SEE:  The Torn Veil. =  https://www.wholeperson-counseling.org/doctrine/torn_veil.html
B. A Spirit of self condemnation is an accusing spirit.
SEE: Recognizing The Accuser.  =  https://www.wholeperson-counseling.org/warfare/the_accuser.html
VIII.  Forgiveness is available right now.
A. "(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)" (II Corinthians 6:2).

B. "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;   That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:8-10).

C. "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.   If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us" (I John 1:8-10).
