Signs of life

Signs of Life In The Word

Scripture:
"For the word of God is quick (alive), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart"  (Hebrews 4:12).

"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever"  (I Peter 1:23).

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life"  (John 6:63).

In nature we find various signs of life, such as:  movement, sound, flexibility, strenght, communication, sight, reproduction, growth, creativity, digestion, elimination, light.  We can also find these same factors in relation to the Word of God.

1. Movement = sent out by God.
"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it"  (Isaiah 55:11).

"He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions"  (Psalms 107:20).

2. Sound = preaching, taught, singing.
"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"  (Romans 10:14-15).
3. Flexibility = applicable to anyone/anytime.
"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope"  (Romans 15:4).

"Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come"  (I Corinthians 10:11).

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works"  (II Timothy 3:16-17).

4. Has Strength = power of its own.
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart"  (Hebrews 4:12).

"Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?"  (Jeremiah 23:29).

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek"  (Romans 1:16).

5. Communicates = speaks.
"My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.  When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.  For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life"  (Proverbs 6:20-23).

"And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel"  (Hebrews 12:24).

6. Has sight = wisdom, understanding, knowledge.
"The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple"  (Psalms 119:130).

"The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.  The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.  More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward"  (Psalms 19:7-11).

7. Reproduction = produces life.
"I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word"  (Psalms 119:107).

"My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.  Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.  For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh"  (Proverbs 4:20-22).

"But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name"  (John 20:31).

8. Growth = produces.
"Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food"  (Job 23:12). (necessary food for ...).

"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby"  (I Peter 2:2).

"For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.  For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil"  (Hebrews 5:12-14).

9. Creativity = is creative.
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God"  (Romans 10:17). (produces faith)

"Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear"  (Hebrews 11:3).

"I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions"  (Proverbs 8:12).

10. Digestion = assimulation of truth.
"Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever"  (Psalms 119:160).

"As he spake these words, many believed on him.  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed"  (John 8:30-31).

"Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them"  (Jeremiah 5:14).

11. Elimination = refuse.
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart"  (Hebrews 4:12).

"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ"  (II Corinthians 10:4-5).

12. Gives light = radiates.
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path"  (Psalms 119:105).

"For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life"  (Proverbs 6:23).
