Praying God's Promises

"Praying God's Promises" means that we come to agree in prayer with what God says in His Word about His promises.

We have some things that accompany salvation. "But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak" (Hebrews 6:9).

We have access to all the promises of God through Jesus. "For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us" (II Corinthians 1:20).

We can draw promises from both the Old and New Covenants. "Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old" (Matthew 13:52)

We should pray according to His will as found in His Word. "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him" (I John 5:14-15).

SOME EXAMPLES: (meant only to be a suggested outline for encouragement).

1. Safety from natural disasters. "But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee" (Isaiah 43:1-2).

2. Success in life. "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success" (Joshua 1:8).

3. Peace of mind. "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).

4. Prosperity in life. "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth" (III John 1:2)

5. Salvation in Christ. "And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham" (Luke 19:9).

6. Physical healing. "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed" (I Peter 2:24).

7. Emotional healing and freedom. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord" (Luke 4:18-19).

8. Cleansing from sin. "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:18).

9. The good gift of the Holy Spirit. "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" (Luke 11:13).

10. Joy of the Holy Spirit. "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost" (Romans 14:17).

11. Deliverance from the enemy. "Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence" (Psalms 91:3).

12. Spiritual fruitfulness. "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you" (John 15:16).

13. Renewed fellowship with God. "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13).

14. Increase in family or Church growth. "The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth" (Psalms 115:14-15).

15. The blessings of the Lord. "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper" (Psalms 1:1-3).

16. Forgiveness for all sin. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (I John 1:9).

17. More than we have dreamed. "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not" (Jeremiah 33:3).

18. The power of the Holy Spirit for witnessing. "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8).

"Praying God's Promises" also means to respectfully hold God to His Word.

For example:

"Heavenly Father, you said in your Word that I have healing through the stripes of Jesus; therefore, I asking that you to honor your Word by the healing of my body. Amen."

However, we should leave the answer with God! "And he (Jesus) said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt" (Mark 14:36).
