Understanding Meditation

Since there is often a misunderstandings about meditation among both Believers and
unbelievers, I suggest that you take the simple test below.

Instructions for this test are as follows:
Set One
1. There is no place for meditation in the life of a Christian.
2. The primary purpose of meditation is to empty or clear one's mind. 
3. Peter used meditation as a part of his life.
4. One aspect of meditation is being still.
5. One purpose of meditation is to discover your inner self.
Set Two
1. One of the best times to meditate is early in the morning. 
2. It may enable one to focus upon seeing and hearing what he would not otherwise. 
3. It is not important what we meditate upon as long as we choose something.
4. Since Christians have the Holy Spirit, they do not need to meditate.
5. One should never mediate when they are in bed.
Set Three
1. Meditation may aid one in bringing a peace of mind. 
2. If  you clear your mind of everything, you may leave a door open to evil spirits. 
3. Meditation may enable you to become successful. 
4.  Meditation may be a way for you to receive divine wisdom.
5. It is not profitable for Christians to meditate.
Set Four
1. Meditation may prove to be an aid in one obeying the Word..
2. Visualization is a part of meditation.
3. The primary purpose of meditation for a Christian is to receive revelation of God.
4. The sheep chewing his cud is a good example of meditation. 
5. Scripture memory should be a part of meditation for the Believer.

What The Scripture Says About Meditation

Joshua 1:8  "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."

Psalm 1:2  "But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."

Psalm 2:1 "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?" {imagine: Heb. meditate}

Psalm 63:6  When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

Psalm 77:12  "I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings."

Psalm 119:15  "I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways."

Psalm 119:23  "Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes."

Psalm 119:48  "My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes."

Psalm 119:78 "Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts."

Psalm 119:148  "Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word."

Psalm 143:5  "I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands."

I Timothy 4:15  "Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all."

Psalm  46:10  "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."

Isaiah 26:3  "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

II Corinthians 10:5  "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."

I Thessalonians 4:11  "And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you."

II Timothy 2:15  "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Joshua 6:2  "And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour."

I Samuel 12:16 "Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes."

5. True = The Holy Spirit aids us in recalling the Word which we have put to memory..
